Selena Gomez was dragged through the mud in the tabloids over the past year for her supposed weight gain and Justin Bieber drama, and her rehab check-in in October didn't help matters. But Selena's speech during the American Music Awards will make her your newest role model.
The pop star took home the award for favorite female pop/rock artist, but her speech was dedicated to something bigger: what's in your heart.
“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram,” Gomez said. “I want to see what’s in your heart. I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore. All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love."
Not only did she show the utmost gratitude for her success, but she expressed her love for her fans too. "And I have to say thank you so much to my fans, because you guys are so damn loyal, and I don’t know what I did to deserve you," she said. "But if you are broken, you do not have to stay broken. And if that’s anything, whether you respect me or not, that’s one thing you should know about me, I care about people. And this is for you, thank you.”
Celebrities in the audience, as well as those who watched at home were extremely touched by Gomez's speech, and it's safe to say her first appearance since entering rehab was an inspiring one.
